My Approach
When I began my career 18 years ago, I quickly realized there were major issues with the traditional approach to treating substance abuse. First, a “one size fits all” model doesn’t work for most people. Second, without a thorough initial assessment, clients rarely address the root cause of their problems. And third, most programs neglect a holistic view that includes mental health, medical concerns, nutrition, exercise, and—perhaps most importantly—purpose. I believe that all of these elements must be acknowledged to foster real, lasting recovery. Within my scope of practice, I help address these essential areas and connect you to other resources if needed.
It’s also important to recognize that “going to rehab,” engaging in 12-step programs like AA, or relying on religion-based models isn’t for everyone. While these methods have saved countless lives and remain valuable for millions each year, they might not be the right fit for your unique situation. Thanks to evolving research, we now have more evidence-based tools—like medication, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)—that can dramatically improve outcomes. At the same time, “virtual platforms” have multiplied, promising wide access but often providing another version of a one-size-fits-all plan. Some of these platforms can help, but you may be here because you want something more personal.
My approach is straightforward: We start by uncovering the underlying causes of your substance use, then work together to design a fully customized recovery plan that’s achievable and motivating. We’ll meet weekly for three to six months—not years. If at any point we determine you need more or less help than I can provide, I’ll guide you toward the best resources available.
In my experience with everyone from college students and homemakers to executives, celebrities, and even those in the criminal justice system, one factor unites successful clients: a desire to change. Even if that desire feels small right now, I can help nurture it into a powerful force—if you’re willing. Ultimately, the cost of my services will be less than what you might otherwise spend sustaining a self-defeating habit. I invite you to take this next step toward a healthier, more fulfilling life on your own terms.
About Me
I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Bethany University’s Addiction Counseling program in 2008, beginning my career as an intern counselor while still in school. Since then, I’ve devoted a significant portion of my professional life to working with individuals and groups, helping them navigate and ultimately overcome substance abuse issues.
Over the years, I’ve pursued ongoing education, earning eight state and national substance abuse credentials. I currently hold a CADC II in California (CCAPP), a CADC I in Oregon (MHACBO), and the NCAC I nationally (NAADAC). My work also extends beyond traditional counseling: I provide coaching services to clients across the United States and internationally. As the first substance abuse professional to offer a fully anonymous coaching option, I strive to meet the needs of clients who value complete discretion and privacy.
In addition to direct clinical services, I’ve managed multiple residential and outpatient treatment programs, held senior leadership roles in the substance abuse treatment industry, and provided consulting services nationwide. I am also the author of Addiction Private Practice: The Definitive Guide for Addiction Counselors and Therapists, which reflects my commitment to innovating and improving the field. Through each of these endeavors, my focus remains on delivering compassionate, evidence-based care that respects every individual’s unique journey to recovery.
